What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a non-invasive treatment that uses gentle pulses of light to target inflammation, abnormal blood vessels, and skin conditions. Originally used in dermatology to treat rosacea and sun damage, IPL has been found to significantly help dry eye disease, especially when it is related to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
How IPL Works for Dry Eye
Targets and reduces abnormal blood vessels (telangiectasia) that contribute to chronic inflammation around the eyelids.
Gently warms and unblocks the meibomian glands, improving oil flow into the tear film.
Reduces inflammation and bacteria along the eyelid margins, improving gland health.
Helps reduce Demodex mites, which can worsen inflammation and dry eye.
How IPL Works for Rosacea
Rosacea is a skin condition that causes redness, visible blood vessels, and inflammation, commonly on the cheeks, nose, and forehead. It can also affect the eyelids, contributing to ocular rosacea and dry eye.
Targets visible blood vessels and redness associated with rosacea.
Reduces inflammation, helping to calm skin and improve its appearance.
Improves meibomian gland function, which can be affected by ocular rosacea, helping reduce associated dry eye symptoms.
