Glaucoma Management at Optimize Vision Care
Early Detection; Advanced Monitoring; Personalized Treatment
What Is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve. It develops slowly and painlessly in most cases, meaning many patients don’t realize they have it until significant vision loss has occurred. Without proper treatment, glaucoma can lead to permanent vision loss and blindness.

Types of Glaucoma We Monitor
  • Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma – The most common type, with gradual drainage channel blockage and rising eye pressure.
  • Angle-Closure Glaucoma – Less common but more acute; a sudden rise in pressure due to blocked drainage angles.
  • Normal-Tension Glaucoma – Optic nerve damage despite normal IOP levels.
  • Secondary Glaucoma – Caused by injury, inflammation, medications, or other eye diseases.
  • Congenital Glaucoma – A rare, inherited form present at birth.
Our Diagnostic Tools

At Optimize Vision Care, we use state-of-the-art diagnostic technologies to detect and monitor glaucoma, even in its earliest stages:

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT): Provides high-resolution imaging of the optic nerve and retinal nerve fiber layer to track changes over time.

Visual Field (VF) Testing: Detects peripheral vision loss and monitors disease progression.

Goldmann Applanation Tonometry: The gold standard for accurately measuring intraocular pressure.

Gonioscopy and Pachymetry (if needed): Assess the eye’s drainage angle and corneal thickness to aid in diagnosis and risk evaluation.

Glaucoma Treatment & Ongoing Management

While there is no cure for glaucoma, early intervention and consistent management can preserve vision. Dr. Fatouraei develops a personalized treatment plan for each patient, which may include:

– Prescription Eye Drops: To lower eye pressure and prevent further damage.

– Oral Medications: Occasionally used when additional pressure reduction is required.

– Regular Monitoring: Scheduled follow-ups with repeat OCT and VF testing to monitor disease stability.

– Referral for Surgical or Laser Procedures: When needed, we collaborate closely with trusted local ophthalmologists for:

  • Laser trabeculoplasty
  • Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)
  • Traditional filtration surgeries (e.g., trabeculectomy or shunt placement)
