ARMD Management

Our mission is to keep your vision clear

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) Management
At Optimize Vision Care, we specialize in the early detection and management of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) — a leading cause of vision loss in adults over 50. Our approach combines advanced imaging technology, personalized treatment plans, and close monitoring to preserve your central vision and enhance your quality of life. Led by Dr. Maryam Fatouraei, our team is dedicated to proactive care that empowers patients to take control of their eye health.
What Is ARMD?
ARMD is a progressive eye condition that affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision. It can make tasks like reading, driving, and recognizing faces more difficult. There are two primary forms:
Dry (Non-Exudative) ARMD:
The more common type, characterized by gradual breakdown of the retinal cells and buildup of drusen (yellow deposits).
Wet (Exudative) ARMD:
A less common but more severe form involving abnormal blood vessel growth under the retina, which can leak fluid or blood, leading to rapid vision loss.
Advanced Diagnostics at Optimize Vision Care
We use state-of-the-art technology to detect even subtle signs of ARMD before symptoms appear, allowing for early intervention:
🔸 Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT):
High-resolution, cross-sectional imaging of the retina to detect fluid, drusen, or thinning of retinal layers.
🔸 Fundus Photography:
Detailed color images of the retina to track progression over time.
🔸 Amsler Grid Testing:
A simple but powerful tool to detect early changes in central vision.

🔸 Macular Pigment Optical Density (MPOD):
Optional testing for assessing your retina’s protective pigment levels and nutritional risk factors.

 Personalized ARMD Management
While there is no cure for ARMD, early diagnosis and active management can slow progression and preserve vision. Your personalized care plan may include:

🔸 Nutritional Counseling & AREDS2 Supplements:
Based on clinical studies, specific vitamins and antioxidants may slow disease progression in moderate cases of dry ARMD.

🔸 Lifestyle & Risk Factor Modification:
We guide you in managing smoking, blood pressure, and UV exposure, and all factors that impact ARMD.

🔸 Low Vision Support:
If ARMD affects daily activities, we offer referrals to low vision rehabilitation and occupational therapy to maintain independence.

🔸 Referral for Advanced Treatment:
For patients with wet ARMD, we coordinate timely referral to a retinal specialist for anti-VEGF injections or laser therapy.
